Consultation & Training
Individual Consultation
We can discuss various technology options to help you reach pedagogical goals, in the classroom or on the web, whether it be a course component or an entire course.
Project Consultation
If your requirements call for longer term planning or if you have a small group working on a project, we can provide support and feedback to help you manage your project within given time and technology parameters.
Workshops and Seminars
We offer ongoing workshops on a wide range of topics, including broad overviews of possibilities, solutions to specific pedagogical issues, and applications training.
Small Group Sessions
Have a small group of colleagues who need training? We can work with you to facilitate a workshop to meet the specific needs of your group.
Conference Preparation
Conference preparation is often preparation for the unforseen technical glitch that’s sure to crop up. Let’s help you prepare to succeed in spite of potential presentation technology mishaps.
Production Services
These services require minimal participation on your part. Just provide us with the necessary materials and we'll do most of the work, leaving you with a finished product ready for use.
CD/DVD Duplication
Our in-house duplication service for CD and DVD provides a cost effective alternative for short run, low volume or periodic replication needs.
Gradebook
Need a simple electronic gradebook for your course or tutorial? Just tell us which class you require the gradebook for, the assignment names and course weightings, and we'll create and email you the completed Excel document ready for use. Simply add assignment marks into the gradebook, and the final marks, averages and letter grades will be calculated for you.
Personal Website Creation
We can help you set up your personal website rapidly. You supply the content, and we'll work with you to create a basic website based on our personal website template.
Blog
Increasing in popularity as an educational tool, blogs provide a simple, easy-to-use web publishing platform to create journals, post thoughts, and/or interact with others. See our demonstration blog.
Discussion Groups
Looking for a simple, easy to use discussion group tool for your course? Not ready to use a complete course management (i.e. WebCT) solution yet? We can add an online discussion group to your Central Web Service account, ready to use in your course. See our demonstration discussions.

Course Calendar
Add a small component to your website that will allow you and your TAs to add calendar items visible to your website visitors. The calendar will come pre-populated with York’s Important Dates for the upcoming academic year. See our demonstration calendar.

YQuiz
A specialized web tool designed to streamline quiz creation, presentation and grading. Create short quizzes, self-tests and participation activities optionally linked to Passport York. See our demonstration quiz.
Assisted Services
Most of the services we offer are of the “self-help” variety, which is not to say that you’re on your own. Rather than doing all the work for you, we'll provide you with all the training or information you require to work productively, either at the FSC using our extensive collection of computer hardware and software, or at home if you have the necessary tools. We provide support at every step to ensure that you meet your outcomes successfully. Below is a taste of some of our service offerings. If you’re wondering if we can help, just ask. Audio Production
Our sound suppressed Audio Recording Booth provides an ideal environment for high quality recordings for faculty wishing to use audio as a component of their teaching repertoire (voice-annotating PowerPoint presentations, video, still pictures, etc.) We also provide multiple tools to capture, enhance and re-purpose those recordings, and to make them available in a variety of formats such as DVD, CD and via web-based delivery.
Application Support
Need to learn a particular application skill—create a PowerPoint presentation, save a file as a PDF, scan slides more effectively, re-purpose materials from one form to another? We can guide you as you learn new skills or improve existing ones. The skills we can help you with are myriad, so we'll leave the possibilities to your imagination. Just ask us.
Adobe Connect
A tool for online conferencing and collaborative web communications, Connect (formerly Breeze) is designed to allow quick and easy creation and sharing of online meetings, presentations and training courses over the Internet, both live and on-demand.
Database Support for Your Website
Add simple databases to your website, allowing your students to easily search for information. We provide you with training and support so that you can maintain and expand your databases over time.
Rich Media Creation
We can aid you in the creation of rich media for your courses and provide advice on the best methods to incorporate such elements into your teaching and learning activities.
Digital Conversion
We can help you convert almost any analogue materials you may possess into digital files, ready for re-purposing into your teaching and research activities. Analogue materials deteriorate over time, so protect your valuable content by converting to digital form. We can work with cassette tapes, 8mm movies and VHS, still and slide images, maps and 3D objects. Have the tools at home but aren't sure if you're using them as effectively as you could be? We can help.
Multi-Purpose Studio
Our mini-studio will allow you to produce instructional modules for classroom or online use. Try different presentations: topics you introduce as a course director or lecturer, interviews with experts on a particular topic—the approach is up to you. And you can use the studio facility with our assistance, or on your own.
WebCT
Let FSC staff help you make effective use of York’s centrally supported web-based course management system. WebCT provides a course website plus tools for communication, assessment and course management, and can be used to enhance a face-to-face course or for delivery of a fully online course.
